Is there an alternate enclosure for shuked WD drives, I am hoping to find a way to keep them a bit cooler as at the moment I can fry eggs on them.

You could use HDD docking station. Or have a look here on more specious enclosures https://amzn.to/3rpsppL. Or maybe get a terra master and set it in JBOD mode.
