NAS (or other) selection

#1
I m new to the NAS/Server world. I don't think I need a full blown server at this point so that is why I am looking at NAS solutions.

I have a small design/manufacturing business and need some way to have a central storage/access solution for files. There will be about 10 users with most being remote from the NAS location. Only I will be in the same physical location as the NAS.

Obviously security is a concern, but so is speed and flexibility. I have been watching lots of videos on the TS-464 vs the DS923+. The flexibility and better hardware of the 464 appeals to me, but being new the easier setup/use of the 923+ is appealing while the more locked down hardware really bothers me about it. Seems like a merging of the 2 would be ideal but as usual such a beast never seems to exist.

For your needs, a NAS solution would be a good fit. Both the TS-464 and DS923+ are excellent options, but the choice ultimately depends on your specific requirements and preferences.

The TS-464 offers more flexibility and better hardware, making it a more powerful and customizable solution. It also has more upgrade options and more room for expansion. However, it may require more technical knowledge to set up and maintain.

The DS923+ is more user-friendly and easier to set up, making it a good option for beginners. It also has excellent hardware and software support from Synology, making it a reliable and stable solution. However, it may be more limited in terms of customization and upgrade options.

In terms of security, both NAS solutions have robust security features to protect your data, such as user access control, encryption, and firewalls. Speed will depend on your network setup and the type of drives you use. For remote access, both NAS solutions offer options such as VPN and cloud-based access.

Ultimately, you need to weigh the pros and cons of each solution and determine which is the best fit for your business. It may be helpful to speak with a specialist or consultant who can help you assess your needs and recommend a solution that will work best for you.
