I'd like to remotely (over the internet) access 4k movies/shows with Dolby Atmos audio data on my PLEX server. I will have 2 simultaneous streams at most (usually just 1). The PLEX client will be an NVIDIA Shield Pro so I should probably be fine with most NAS devices, but I'd like to get something robust enough to handle transcoding as though I didnt have the Shield Pro.
Thank you kindly!

Based on your requirements, I would recommend the QNAP TS-674 NAS. This NAS has an Intel Core i5 processor and can handle 4K video transcoding with ease. It also has a PCIe slot which can be used to upgrade the system with a dedicated graphics card, further increasing its transcoding capabilities.
With regards to remote access, the QNAP NAS has a robust set of features for remote access, including VPN support and myQNAPcloud service. This should allow you to easily access your PLEX server remotely over the internet.
For storage drives, I would recommend using either WD Red Pro or Seagate IronWolf Pro drives. These drives are designed for NAS use and have a higher workload rating, making them more suitable for continuous operation in a NAS environment.
Overall, the QNAP TS-674 NAS should be more than capable of handling your requirements for remote 4K transcoding and should provide a reliable and robust storage solution for your media files.
