Hi, I am the IT guy for a small convenience store chain (18 stores). Years ago I put in a WD 4TB My Cloud as a file server and it has done a great job but is aging. By trade I am a programmer and not an engineer. Everything that I know about server, network, hardware and database administration has all been learned on the job here over the last 7 years. I am not scared to admit that when it comes to purchasing an upgraded file server I need some advice. I am aware that a NAS does so much more than just serve as a file server but at the moment that is all we are needing. Any advice that you can give for a decent NAS upgrade that has great raid capability would be much appreciated

Thank you for reaching out. Based on your needs and expertise level, I would recommend looking into Synology's Plus series NAS devices, such as the DS220+, DS420+, or even the DS923+. These models are designed for small to medium-sized businesses and offer a wide range of features, including excellent RAID capability, high data transfer speeds, and easy integration with existing IT infrastructure.
Additionally, these NAS devices come with a wide range of pre-installed applications and can support many more through Synology's Package Center. You can customize your NAS with various apps like file sharing, backup solutions, and security measures. Moreover, Synology's DSM operating system is user-friendly, so you can easily manage and monitor the NAS device without extensive IT knowledge.
Investing in a Synology Plus series NAS will ensure your business can grow with its storage and performance requirements, making it a future-proof investment. I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask.
