Nas solution for home use

Hi

This is my first Nas and looking at synology. I will be using it mainly for personal storage for family photos and documents. I am torn between the 920+ and the 420j. I want a 4 bay to give myself more options in years to come as I will have 2 bays initially so the extra bays will help in future.

I believe the 420j will fit the bill but as I cant expand the memory should I pay the extra for the 920+ to future proof myself. What are the expected lifespans of each unit?

DS420j is not a very future-proof NAS. People often replace it / upgrade with a new model every 2 years. DS920+ can be upgraded or expanded making it future-proof.
Also, there are no limits on what apps you can install with plus series models. People often use the plus series for 10 years or so.
