Backup File from WD MyCloud to QNAP

#1
Hi, Thank you for the informative videos. I have been a subscriber for a while and enjoy the useful information on products and operational aspects of the various NAS equipment.

I have a WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra and a QNAP TS 251+ NAS. I would like to use my QNAP as a backup for the WD MyCloud but can't seem to find any information on making this happen. I am able to conduct manual backups by mounting the WD on the QNAP and manually copying files but there must be a more automatic approach to this problem.

Finally, as for your coffee fix, we are visiting England in December and would be more than willing to send you coffee from Canada when we arrive. It's the best coffee. It's called Kootenay Roasting Company. Check out their website: https://www.krccoffee.com/. They are a family owned artisan business. You pick the beans and I will sent them to you.

Hi,

Thanks for your message!

To automate the backup from your WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra to your QNAP TS-251+, I’d recommend checking out QNAP's Hybrid Backup Sync (HBS 3). You could try connecting your WD MyCloud to your QNAP via a mapped CIFS drive in HBS, if it’s available. This might allow you to set up automatic backups.

However, based on my experience, WD MyCloud doesn’t natively support automatic rsync backups to a QNAP NAS. It may be possible to perform manual backups, but for fully automated syncing, you may run into some limitations with the WD MyCloud's features.

If the CIFS connection doesn’t work, I'd suggest checking whether WD MyCloud supports rsync (it might not directly support backup tasks). In that case, you could potentially create a script or use rsync for manual backups or check if there’s another way to automate it, but HBS would still be your best option for scheduled syncing.

As for your coffee offer, thank you so much for your generosity! I’ll definitely check out Kootenay Roasting Company. That sounds delicious!
