My mistake Synology NAS is way over my ability, although very comfortable with PC since 1984, at 85 find the new tech is too much to absorb. For my home needs.
Would appreciate your suggestions, also why the $100 difference BeeStation 4tb €250 and Seagate Portable Drive, 4TB,Hard Disk Esterno, Grigio, €90. Is the cost difference justified!!
Very great full for your support.

Thank you for reaching out, and I understand where you’re coming from—it can definitely feel overwhelming with all the new tech out there, especially when it's beyond your home needs. But no worries, let’s go over your options.
The price difference between the BeeStation 4TB (€250) and the Seagate Portable Drive (€90) comes down to a few factors. The BeeStation is a dedicated NAS (Network-Attached Storage), which means it’s more than just storage—it’s designed for file sharing, backups, media streaming, and accessing data remotely. It comes with extra features like data protection (RAID), cloud backup options, and sometimes built-in apps for media or security purposes. Essentially, it’s like having your own mini-server at home.
On the other hand, the Seagate Portable Drive is just a simple external hard drive. It’s cheaper because it doesn’t have the same features—it’s great for basic storage, but you won’t get the networking, backup automation, or remote access that you would with a NAS like the BeeStation.
Given your home needs and preference for simplicity, the BeeStation might be a good middle ground between the Synology DS220j and a basic external hard drive. It's more user-friendly than the Synology, but it still offers more features than the Seagate.
As for trading your DS220j, you could definitely try selling or trading it locally or online through marketplaces like eBay or tech forums to recoup some of the costs if you're looking to downsize.
