Hobbyist photographer, built a collection of of photographs across several generations, wish to share with family members across the world. Time to upgrade from Synology DS215. Been waiting for 2023 models not sure that they offer hoped for solution. Will need to last a long time so need to get it right. More important to get it right than meet budget.
Which NAS to get?

For your use case, I would recommend considering the newer models, either the DS423+ or the soon-to-be-released DS223+. Both models come with a quad-core Celeron CPU, which is well suited for media storage and streaming.
Compared to the older DS220+ and DS420+ models, the newer models offer better performance and newer features that will likely serve you better in the long run. Additionally, the DS423+ and DS223+ are some new models to be released.
It's also worth considering the storage capacity that you'll need for your collection of photographs. The DS423+ and DS223+ both offer multiple drive bays and support for RAID configurations, which can provide both redundancy and increased storage capacity.
Ultimately, the decision on which NAS to get will depend on your specific needs and budget. However, based on the information you've provided, the newer models with quad-core Celeron CPUs seem like a good fit for your needs, as they offer better performance and newer features that will likely serve you better in the long run.
