Synology 5+ Bay with Intel GPU

#1
Hi Robbie / Eddie,

Just a quick Q or two to ensure I haven't lost the plot...

Am I right in saying that - after a tonne of research - Synology do not have a NAS (5 Bays - 8 Bays) that has an Intel processor with embedded GPU......... with the exception of the mentally priced DS1621xs+ ?

All of the 5-8 bay Synology NAS I've looked at (including the newly released 1522+) all seem to have a Ryzen processor - which from your excellent YT videos - is a bag of sh*t when it comes to transcoding past 1080p ?

How can that be? What are the Synology head's smoking?

I was hoping to get my hands on a 5-6 Bay NAS and would prefer to stay with Synology over QNAP, but Ryzen in a NAS is a deal breaker for me. Thought the 1522+ would have come with a GPU celeron and that would have done the job - even with 1GBe - but not Ryzen. Is there another Synology option?

2nd Q - is there any sign of the 922+ (923+ at this point) becoming a reality?

(I did look at the 653D and the supposed 664D from QNAP, but again - would rather stick with Synology unless there was a solid case for not...

Thanks gents.

Yes, DS1520+ was their biggest multimedia-friendly NAS. It seems like they want to leave the home market and move toward the enterprise. But with HPE already there they will face quick death. In the meantime, Qnap TS-664 has everything you could ask for. Built-in graphics, caching and 10gbe upgrade option with 2.5GbE already on board.
Xeon based Synology models could cope with 4k. But price is ridiculous and their hard drive locking might be extended even towards home user market.

I hope this helps.
