Managing duplicate photos on your QNAP TS-364 NAS can be streamlined using several methods, even for those new to the platform. Here's a straightforward approach to help you identify and remove duplicate files:
1. Using QNAP's File Station:
QNAP's File Station application offers a built-in feature to locate and manage duplicate files:
Access File Station: Log in to your QNAP NAS and open the File Station application.
Navigate to the Desired Folder: Browse to the folder where your photos are stored.
Initiate Duplicate Search: Right-click on the folder, select "Find Duplicates," and File Station will scan for duplicate files based on criteria like name, size, and content.
Review and Delete: Once the scan is complete, review the list of duplicates and select the files you wish to delete.
Note: This feature may not be available in all versions of QTS. If you don't see the "Find Duplicates" option, consider updating your system or exploring alternative methods.

2. Utilizing Third-Party Applications:
If File Station doesn't meet your needs, third-party applications can offer more advanced duplicate detection:
dupeGuru:
Overview: dupeGuru is a free, open-source tool designed to find duplicate files on your system. It can be run directly from your computer, scanning your NAS folders.
How to Use:
Install dupeGuru: Download and install dupeGuru on your computer.
Connect to NAS: Map your NAS folders to your computer to allow dupeGuru to access them.
Scan for Duplicates: Launch dupeGuru, select the folders to scan, and initiate the process.
Review Results: After the scan, dupeGuru will display potential duplicates side by side for manual inspection before deletion.
Note: Ensure you have backups before deleting any files to prevent accidental data loss.

3. Using Qfiling:
Qfiling is another tool provided by QNAP that can assist in organizing and managing files:
Setup: Install Qfiling from the App Center if it's not already installed.
Create a Filing Task: Set up a task to organize your photos, and during the configuration, enable the option to handle duplicate files as per your preference.
Note: Qfiling offers various options for managing duplicates, including retaining the latest version or moving duplicates to a specific folder.
Conclusion:
While QNAP provides built-in tools like File Station and Qfiling to manage duplicate files, third-party applications such as dupeGuru can offer enhanced functionality. Always ensure you have a current backup of your data before performing bulk deletions to safeguard against accidental loss.
