Advice please: Correct order of new NAS setup for first time QNAP user

#1
Information
Hey there,

I have a QNAP TS-673A-8G turning up in the next few days and I have 2 x Crucial 32GB (1x32GB) CT32G4SFD832A 3200MHz SODIMM DDR4 RAM sticks that I want to install and the NAS will have Seagate ST8000VN004 8TB IronWolf drives going into it.

My question is in what order should I do the upgrade and get it going please?
  • Leave the factory 8GB in it initially
  • Install the drives
  • Bootup and install the OS (I'm thinking QuTS Hero - as far as I can tell it will install with 8GB but will not have full functionality)
  • Power it down and install the new RAM
  • Power back up, check it can see and use the RAM and start putting files on it

Am I missing anything or have stuff in the wrong order?

Thank you!

Glad to hear it worked! For anyone else setting up their QNAP TS-673A-8G, here's a quick reminder of the best order:

Install the New RAM First – It's easier to do it right at the start to avoid issues later on.
Install the Hard Drives – Make sure they’re properly seated before booting.
Boot Up and Install QuTS Hero – You can do this with the default 8GB RAM, but you'll get full performance once the new RAM is installed.
Power Down and Add the New RAM – If you didn’t do it initially, you can add it after the first boot.
Boot Up Again and Verify Everything – Check if the NAS is recognizing the new RAM and start using it for your files.
