We need to add external storage to an old Win10P workstation with a free PCIe x4 slot. We have a good number of spare 3TB NAS HDDs and need to connect at least 4 of them to the PC. A NAS would be overkill and too costly. We can use hardware or software RAID, and Windoze Storage Spaces is a candidate. Because we're a public charity, we're flexible and cheap. Still, reliability is #1.

For your needs of adding external storage to an old Windows 10 Pro workstation using spare 3TB NAS HDDs, a Direct Attached Storage (DAS) solution would be ideal, considering a NAS might be overkill. One cost-effective and reliable option is the TerraMaster D4-310 4-bay DAS. It supports up to four 3.5" SATA drives and connects via a PCIe x4 slot, fitting perfectly into your setup. You can configure it with Windows Storage Spaces for RAID functionality, ensuring data redundancy and performance. This solution balances flexibility and affordability, crucial for a non-profit charity.
