NAS to replace file server storage on aging and near capacity Windows Server

#1
I have a small business office that has an aging Windows AD file server that is running fine but nearing its storage capacity. I would like to add a NAS appliance to take the file storage off of the Windows server.

For your small business looking to offload file storage from an aging Windows AD file server, a NAS is a robust solution. Given your budget of around $1,000 and the need for 1TB+ storage, Synology offers several compelling options that provide both current needs and future scalability. Models like the DS923+ and DS1522+ are ideal choices. Both feature AMD Ryzen R1600 CPUs, which are powerful enough to handle business workloads and ensure smooth file access and sharing. The DS923+ comes with four bays, making it suitable if you foresee moderate growth, while the DS1522+ offers five bays, giving you more flexibility for expansion as your storage needs increase. Both models also support 10GbE, which is great for fast data transfer speeds, ensuring your setup remains efficient and future-proof. For even larger storage needs, the DS1821+ with its eight bays might be an overkill but provides room for substantial growth, making it a smart long-term investment.
