Hi, I am in the market to upgrade my old I7 computer 10years old into a new NAS device. Having seen your channel I was wondering if you could advise on a good NAS that can handle backing up from computers and to OneDrive as well as handling file shares and the ability to run Plex with 4K videos an example of method is below:
Total bitrate: 35594kbps, 23.98FPS, H264 (High @L4.1), DTS S24 5.1 on 6 channels 48.000khz
I can supply more info if required but this is an example of the type of video I would be using. I've seen your videos on the cheaper Terramaster but am a little concerned about the CPU usage for the above?
Any help would be good thanks
Mike

Based on your requirements, I would recommend considering the QNAP TS-674 or TS-673 NAS models. These are powerful NAS devices that feature an Intel Core i5 processor and a hardware transcoding engine, which will enable you to stream 4K video content to your Plex clients without any issues.
In addition, these models support GPU card installation, which can handle 8K media if you ever decide to upgrade your media library in the future. They also have the ability to backup your data from your computer to OneDrive, and offer file sharing capabilities.
When it comes to your concern about CPU usage, the QNAP TS-674 and TS-673 models are more than capable of handling the demands of transcoding 4K videos. With their powerful processor and transcoding engine, they should be able to handle the video you described with ease.
However, it's worth noting that transcoding 4K video is a demanding task, and can still put a strain on the CPU of even the most powerful NAS devices. If you plan to transcode multiple streams of 4K video simultaneously, you may want to consider adding more RAM to your NAS or investing in a dedicated transcoding device to help lighten the load.
Overall, the QNAP TS-674 and TS-673 are excellent NAS devices that should meet your requirements for streaming 4K video content, backing up your data, and offering file sharing capabilities.
