Hopefully you can set me in the right direction.
I have a DS920+ and I'm adding a DX517 to it is there anything I need to know when installing the 517? do I set this up as it's own volume or increase my present volume

You can set it up as either.
My advice would be - create a New Storage Pool for the DX517 with it's own RAID & volumes for one principal reason....
... when it comes to expanding / replacing your DS920+ and you want to migrate your data.
IF you make it all one Storage Pool, you won't be able to fragment it later, so migrating to your future NAS, capacity will need to be equal or greater than your current configuration. (You can't shrink Storage Pools). Keeping it as one pool expands your current NAS, making it appear larger. Adding a New storage pool makes the DX517 an extension & everything stored in it is slightly removed, although still just as accessible.
