Best sytem for video/music streaming and cloud

#1
Hello,

For me and my family/friends I want to set up a streaming server for movies/series/music and cloud storage. Perhaps, in time, also for gaming purposes.

Between 10-30 daily users.

What would the best system for this.

If you want a system that can handle smooth video and music streaming for 10 to 30 daily users, plus cloud storage for your family and friends, you need something with a strong CPU, plenty of memory headroom, and storage that can grow over time. Once gaming is added into the picture, the demand rises again, so choosing a platform that will last at least five years makes a big difference.

For this type of user load, I would avoid low power Realtek or small Celeron based NAS units, since they struggle once you have multiple people streaming, indexing libraries, and syncing cloud folders. A system built around AMD Ryzen or Intel Core will give you the performance needed for transcoding, real time streaming, and heavy cloud access. A unit like the Synology DS1525 Plus or DS1825 Plus gives you a clean interface, expandable bays, NVMe caching, and enough CPU horsepower to handle Plex or Jellyfin for dozens of users. If you want even more performance and the freedom to run TrueNAS or your own virtual machines, QNAP’s TVS h874 or h674 lines with Intel CPUs provide a workstation class experience inside a NAS chassis.

For true scalability and gaming capability, a small server build with an ASRock Rack board, ECC memory and a Ryzen CPU offers the most open system. That gives you the flexibility to add GPU acceleration, dedicated NVMe storage pools, and enough compute capacity to support game servers when you are ready.

Here are examples of systems that fit this workload well:
