NAS

#1
Hello, my daughter is autistic, so I have been saving up for a reliable system for her home movies , pictures and Music. I want to have icons on her TV that show either home movies or pictures or music . In fact she has an Ipad and she will have the same icon layout on her ipad! I read that PLEX is the way to do this and have heard so many great things about Unifi equipment. But I have been told that PLEX is not supported that well on the Unifi NAS. is this true or now. What would be your best recoomendation?

Unifi NAS
You are correct that Plex is not well supported on the Unifi NAS today. It can run, but performance is limited and updates are slow. If you really want to stay with Unifi, you would need to add a small mini PC to act as the Plex server, and let the Unifi NAS handle only storage. That setup works, but it adds cost and complexity.

Better options

QNAP
QNAP is the easiest recommendation here. Plex runs smoothly, setup is simple, and you get excellent apps for TV and iPad. For your eight to sixteen terabyte requirement, a two bay or four bay QNAP is perfect. It will give you a very reliable and easy experience.

TerraMaster (budget option)
If you want to keep costs down, TerraMaster also works fine for Plex. TRRAID makes expansion simple and the software is easy enough for home use. It is not as polished as QNAP but still good value.

So the simple answer:
• If you want the smoothest Plex experience: choose QNAP.
• If you want a cheaper solution: TerraMaster.
• If you want Unifi: add a mini PC to run Plex separately.
