If you want cheaper UPS options, there are a few solid picks that work well with Synology and QNAP and stay well under two hundred dollars. These are the models people use most often because they are low cost, have USB support, and still give enough runtime for a clean shutdown.
CyberPower Value series units are normally the cheapest that still integrate properly with Synology. The CyberPower VALUE 600EILCD is usually the lowest cost model that the NAS can detect via USB. It is basic but completely fine for a small four bay system, and it will give you a few minutes of runtime so the NAS can shut down safely. PowerWalker units are also a good budget choice. The VI 600 STL and VI 850 SHL models are very inexpensive and several users have confirmed that Synology detects them. They give surprisingly long runtime for the price and are perfect if you only need protection from short outages. APC Back UPS models are a little more expensive but the APC BX750MI often falls under two hundred dollars and is one of the safest low cost picks. It connects by USB and works smoothly with DSM or QTS. All of these are cheaper alternatives to the more premium UPS lines but still give you the essential feature, which is USB communication so your NAS knows when to shut down. |
