Orico Cyberdata CF56 Pro Issues

#1
I received my Kickstarter CF56 Pro today and am not totally surprised getting it set up would not be smooth.

Installed the cyberdata_windows_v2.1.21_25083.exe after a couple tries. The device will bind with the app client and it suggested downloading a newer update but after checking that I want to download it, it fails with an error: error downloading update package and a bunch of code jibberish after that and then claims upgrade package is downloading but there is nothing new in the downloads folder.

When you set your prototype unit up, did you run into this and if so, how did you get around it? I am unable to complete the install nor get my account set up so I cannot update the unit's firmware beyond what was installed at the factory.

On my prototype unit the setup worked, but the update system did not. The only way I could get it to update was to skip the in app updater entirely and download the full client installer directly from their support page once they uploaded a newer version. At that time the in app update button never worked reliably. Installing the new client over the top of the old one allowed the device to register correctly and then the firmware update pushed to the unit without an error.

So for now, ignore the in app update prompt. Download the latest full installer manually, uninstall the current client, reinstall the new one, then bind the device again. Once the client is talking to the device properly, the firmware update usually triggers automatically when you open the settings page.

If they have not yet posted a newer installer, you will have to wait for them to fix the update link on their server. The update failure message you are seeing is not related to your network, Windows version, or hardware. It is their update endpoint returning an incomplete file.
