Synology Memory Question

#1
I just purchased the Synology DS224+ and I would like to increase the amount of memory in the system. The Official Memory Module is the Synology D4NESO-2666-4G. That would bring me from 2 GB of memory to 6 GB of memory and probably not enough to justify the cost. I would like to use either the Crucial 8GB DDR4 2666MHz CL19 CT8G4S266M or even better, the Crucial 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CT16G4SFRA32A. I have read where both of these modules do work with the DS224+ but I thought it would be best to ask for your opinion. In advance, Thank You!

ou are right to question the value of the official Synology module. Going from 2GB to 6GB helps, but it is not great value when you can get a much larger boost for the same money.

Both modules you mentioned are known to work in the DS224+:

Crucial CT8G4S266M
Crucial CT16G4SFRA32A

The DS224+ tops out unofficially at 16GB, and this Crucial 16GB module is the one most people use. You may see a small warning in DSM because it is not Synology branded, but the NAS runs normally and the performance difference compared with 6GB is very noticeable, especially if you use Photos, Docker, or run multiple packages.

So if the budget allows, the 16GB Crucial option is the best upgrade for this model.
