Glad to hear you got Unraid running on your TerraMaster F5-221 — that’s a great way to extend the life of that system. Just a quick heads-up: since the F5-221 runs its drives in a Linux-based format (EXT4 or Btrfs under TOS), Unraid will not automatically recognize your old TOS RAID structure.
Here’s what to do next to safely access your data: 1. Do not add the existing drives directly to the Unraid array yet. If you do, Unraid will ask to format them, which would erase everything. 2. Install the “Unassigned Devices” plugin. • Go to the Apps tab in Unraid (install Community Applications if not already done). • Search for and install Unassigned Devices. • It allows you to mount the old TOS drives outside of the Unraid array. 3. Mount the drives manually. • After plugging them in, go to the Main tab. • Under “Unassigned Devices,” locate each drive and try to mount it (choose read-only if you want to be safe). • If the drives were in RAID 1 or RAID 5, you may only be able to mount one drive or need to use mdadm or Linux Reader from another machine to extract data. 4. Copy your media to new Unraid shares. Once mounted and confirmed readable, create a new share in Unraid and copy everything over. 5. After your data is safe, you can add the drives to the Unraid array, assign one as parity, and format them for full use under Unraid. If you need a visual walkthrough, the video “How to Set Up the AOOSTAR WTR Max NAS – Bonus (how to use RAID via Unraid)” on the NASCompares YouTube channel shows similar steps for setup and parity configuration. |
