nas motherboard

#1
considering this Motherboard. ASRock IMB-X1314. Is there a power efficient processor that will work with this board. Or is there another comparable MB

The ASRock IMB-X1314 is a solid industrial-grade Mini-ITX motherboard, especially if you’re aiming for stability and long-term availability. It’s built for Intel 12th and 13th Gen Core processors (LGA1700 socket) and supports ECC memory with the right CPUs (typically Xeon or select Core i3/i5/i7 models with ECC support). If you’re aiming for power efficiency while still running 24/7 in a NAS chassis like the Jonsbo N3, here are your options:

Efficient CPU Choices Compatible with IMB-X1314:
• Intel Core i3-13100 (or i3-12100):
4 cores, 60-89W TDP range, efficient for NAS tasks, supports ECC (check specific SKU). This is a great balance of power draw, idle efficiency, and support for modern instruction sets.
• Intel Pentium Gold G7400 or G7400T:
Ultra-efficient, lower core count (2 cores), but excellent idle power and TDP under 46W. Still supports ECC, though limited for heavier services like virtualization.
• Intel Core i5-13400T or i5-12400T:
35W TDP “T” series chip. These are harder to find retail but ideal for NAS builds that still need decent CPU power but low heat. Compatible with the IMB-X1314 if BIOS is up to date.
• Intel Xeon E-2300 series is not compatible, since they use a different chipset/socket (LGA1200).

If you’re looking for an alternative motherboard that’s still Mini-ITX, supports ECC, has 8 SATA ports or more, and keeps power usage in check, your options are slim but here are two alternatives:

Other Considerations:
• Supermicro X13SAE-F (ATX, LGA1700):
Not Mini-ITX, but built for NAS/server use, ECC support, and reliable hardware monitoring.
• ASRock Rack IMB-1224 or IMB-X1714 (when available):
These are similar to the X1314 but might offer slightly better power delivery or I/O layout depending on revisions.

Final Thoughts:
Stick with the i3-13100 or a 35W T-series chip if you can find one. The ASRock IMB-X1314 will serve you well, especially in a compact Jonsbo N3 case with good airflow. Make sure you use a quality PSU with enough SATA power delivery, especially if running 6–8 drives.
