Thanks for reaching out — and congrats on getting Community Fiber’s 5 Gig service. That’s a serious connection, and it makes sense that you're thinking ahead with your network setup.
UniFi Cloud Gateway Fiber + U7 Pro XGs
You're right that the UniFi Cloud Gateway Fiber paired with U7 Pro XG access points is likely overkill for most home setups — but it’s certainly future-proof. The Cloud Gateway Fiber is a solid option to replace the ISP-provided Technicolor router, giving you more control, security, and visibility over your network. The U7 Pro XGs are designed for dense or high-performance environments, and unless you’re running dozens of devices or 8K video streams, a standard U7 Pro or U6 Pro might be more than enough.
That said, if you want to invest once and forget about upgrades for years, the U7 Pro XGs will handle everything you throw at them — and then some.
Plug-and-Play?
UniFi gear isn’t entirely plug-and-play out of the box like consumer routers, but it’s well-designed with a clean interface. If you’re not familiar with VLANs, port profiles, or controller setups, the initial configuration might feel a bit technical — though once it’s running, it’s very stable and low-maintenance.
Installation Support
UniFi doesn’t offer direct installation services, but you’ve got a few options:
Certified UniFi installers / integrators — worth checking UniFi’s official partner directory to find a local installer.
Third-party IT services — many home automation or network specialists in the UK are familiar with UniFi gear and can help with setup.
