Thanks for reaching out—and great to hear you’re diving into the world of NAS! Both the LOCKERSTOR 2 Gen2 (AS6702T) and the TerraMaster F2-424 are strong options in the 2-bay range, but here’s a quick breakdown to help you decide:

? ASUSTOR LOCKERSTOR 2 Gen2 (AS6702T)
Pros:

Intel Celeron N5105 – good for Plex (including some light 4K direct play).

Great app ecosystem and better support for third-party apps like Plex.

2.5GbE x2 ports for faster network speeds (futureproof).

Generally better software and security features than TerraMaster.

iCloud sync possible via apps like rclone or CloudSync Center.

Cons:

Slightly pricier, but worth it for the features and polish.

? TerraMaster F2-424
Pros:

Intel N100 CPU – newer and slightly more efficient than the N5105.

Also supports Plex, Docker, and multiple users well.

Budget-friendly with decent hardware for the price.

2.5GbE networking too.

Cons:

Software is still improving—less refined than ASUSTOR or Synology.

App store more limited, iCloud sync would require manual setup or Docker.

Recommendation:
Since you're learning and want smoother Plex use and potentially syncing with iCloud, I’d lean towards the ASUSTOR AS6702T. It’s a little more user-friendly, especially when you're just starting out, and the software is more polished. Plus, it still gives you room to grow into Docker, multi-user access, and cloud sync.

Whichever you choose, pair it with 2×8TB drives in RAID 1 for redundancy, and you’ll have a great home NAS setup under your 1000 budget.
