First off really like ur channel, very informative. Looking for ur advice. I had a 4 bay ReadyNAS that is now obsolete. I want to share pictures and documents with the family but need a good backup. A 2 bay worries me since you don't have protection from a drive failure. looking at the F4-212 or the F4-424. Do I skip the 212 as it will be obsolete sooner than the 424?
Best regards,,

Thanks for the kind words! Glad you find the channel helpful.
As for your NAS choice, I totally understand your concern about the 2-bay setup. While a 2-bay NAS like the F4-212 can work for simple file sharing, it doesn't provide redundancy, which is a significant risk if one drive fails. That said, if you're worried about drive failure, I’d recommend leaning toward the F4-424.
The F4-424 offers more flexibility with four bays, so you can set up a RAID configuration (like RAID 5 or RAID 10) for redundancy, which would give you some protection in case a drive fails. It's definitely a more future-proof option than the F4-212, as the 212 may become outdated sooner due to fewer bays and less powerful hardware.
If you're serious about backing up important files like pictures and documents, the F4-424 is a better investment in the long run, especially if you plan to grow your storage or need more reliability with backups.
