SSD NAS

#1
I am looking of solution using SSD (for quiet operation) but with minimal or no maintenance needed as I do not have time for that (assume Synology should be gold standard here but I do not find fitting HW).
1. Storing personal files and documents
2. Storing images/pictures
3. Backup of home devices
4. NAS backup to cloud
5. NAS backup to physical 3rd storage solution
6. Access needed mostly in local network only (does not have to run all the time)

What combination of NAS, SSD, cloud and external drive would you recomend?

For your use case, aiming for a quiet NAS with minimal maintenance, I’d recommend considering a Synology NAS due to its user-friendly interface and solid reliability. Below is a combination that could fit your needs while staying within your 1000 CHF budget (excluding drives):

NAS:

Synology DS423+ – This model would be a good fit for your needs. It supports SSDs, is relatively quiet, and offers good performance for personal file storage, backups, and other tasks. It's designed for home users, with excellent software support and ease of use.
Alternatively, QNAP TS-464 could be considered, as it also offers solid performance and a bit more flexibility for future expansion.
SSD Drives:

For quiet operation, I'd suggest using SATA SSDs over NVMe, as they’re quieter and more cost-effective for storage. The Crucial MX500 4TB would be a great choice for quietness and reliability. If you prefer larger capacity and quieter operation, look at Samsung 870 QVO SSDs, which offer decent performance with larger capacity options.
4x4TB SSDs would fit well within your storage needs. You can also consider 2x8TB SSDs if you need more space but are okay with a higher price point.
Cloud Backup:

Use Synology C2 Backup or Google Drive for your cloud backup needs. Synology C2 offers tight integration with their hardware and is easy to set up for automatic backups.
You could also consider Backblaze for a more affordable cloud backup option if you're primarily concerned with personal documents and images.
External Backup:

For your third-party storage backup, consider using an external hard drive like the Seagate Backup Plus Hub (around 8TB-10TB). This provides local, portable backup that can be scheduled for regular backups.
Additional Considerations:

If your access needs are mostly local, ensure the NAS is placed in a quiet location, and use SSD caching (where appropriate) to improve overall speed without sacrificing noise.
Since the NAS doesn't need to run all the time, set it up with scheduled power options, or use the Hibernate mode on Synology to preserve energy and minimize wear.
This setup should cover all your requirements, providing a quiet, low-maintenance solution for personal file storage, backups, and cloud storage integration.
