Newbi - paperless ngx

#1
I am looking at going paperless at home.
I prioritise file recovery (being able to find them).

I am tempted by the Paperless ngx software.
I use Linux Mint ( would consider other Linux distros).
Have ordered a Fujitsu ix1600 scanner.
At the moment I use Google drive for backup.

Would a 2 bay (say 2x 4TB) Synology NAS be 'overkill' ?
I would class myself as a competent basic computer user.

A Synology 2-bay NAS with 2x 4TB drives would actually be a great setup for your paperless system! It's far from overkill, especially when considering your need for file recovery and backup.

The Synology NAS would provide you with a robust solution for storing your scanned documents securely, and the redundancy (RAID 1) from using two 4TB drives would protect your files in case one drive fails. Additionally, you could use Hyper Backup for cloud backups or replicate your setup to a remote location for added peace of mind.

Using Paperless NGX on Linux Mint should work well with your setup. The NAS can act as a centralized location for your scanned documents, and you can easily access them from multiple devices. Your Fujitsu ix1600 scanner should integrate smoothly with Paperless NGX for efficient document management.

Considering your budget of €1000, this setup offers solid performance and flexibility while still leaving room for future expansion, such as adding more storage or using other NAS features as your needs grow.
