Atmos playback

#1
Hello Guys,
What would be the best NAS for 4K with atoms?

Also would it be possible to play back using Apple TV 4K from the NAS instead of directly from the NAS?

For your needs, a QNAP TS-464 or Synology DS923+ would be good choices for 4K HDR with Atmos playback. Both can handle 4K video playback locally, and they provide strong performance for media streaming.

For remote access, where transcoding might be needed, you'd want a Celeron-based NAS with a GPU, or a QNAP 74 series NAS with a PCIe slot for adding a GPU. These models are equipped to handle the heavier transcoding tasks that might be required for remote access, especially if you're streaming to devices that don’t support direct 4K playback.

However, for local playback (such as streaming directly to your Apple TV 4K), there’s no need for a GPU, and either the QNAP TS-464 or Synology DS923+ would be perfectly sufficient, as they can directly stream 4K with Atmos without transcoding.

Both of these options are within your budget and should work well for your 20TB setup.
