Synology DS220j to Eugreen NASync DXP4800 plus

#1
I currently have a Synology DS220j with two 4T Drives. I was considering a DS425+ but their plus series require Synology’s branded drives which become expensive and limited. I am considering your NASync DXP4800 Plus with four 12T drives. I am contemplating whether I will keep the Synology NAS. Will there be an issue if I have both NAS units on my network? How easy is it to transfer the Synology 4T drive contents to the UGreen DXP480 Plus unit.

Can the UGreen NAS files and folder be seen in MS Explorer / File Manager? File manager sometimes has issues finding the Synology folders/files

Hi there, and thanks for getting in touch. Running the DS220j alongside the UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Plus will not cause any issues. Both units can sit on the same network without conflict, and your computers will see them as two separate servers. You can keep the Synology online during the whole migration and even keep it later as a secondary backup if you want extra protection.

Moving your data over is simple. You can open both NAS units through standard SMB shares and copy the folders directly, or you can use Synology tools such as Hyper Backup or Shared Folder Sync to send the data to the UGREEN unit. Most users prefer the normal drag and drop approach from a Windows or macOS machine. It is slow but completely safe.

The UGREEN NASync systems appear normally in Windows Explorer and Finder. You can map network drives, browse folders, and use it the same way you already do with the DS220j. If your PC had moments where it did not see the Synology, that is usually the PC discovery service rather than the NAS, and the UGREEN system should behave normally once SMB is enabled.

As for drive support, Synology has relaxed the restrictions on their twenty five plus models, and they now allow third party drives. If you ever decide to move to a larger Synology in the future, you will not be locked into branded disks.
