Confirmation by Synology - DS1825+ HDD compatibility will not be rolled back anymore

#1
Hi Rob & Team,

I asked Synology for a DS1825+ lifetime guarentee the HDD compatibility will not be rolled back anymore after opening it with DSM7.3.
I got an official confirmation by German Synology Support: HDD compatibility will not be rolled back anymore. Only devices on the "incombatibiliy list" (maybe there is a catch or do you know of any rules preventing them from simply adding arbitrary drives there?)

Just thought you might be interested in this.
Kind Regards
Ben

Thanks for sending this over. What Synology support told you lines up with everything we have seen since DSM 7.3 was released. The DS1825+ and the rest of the 2025 Plus series will stay open to third party SATA HDDs and 2.5-inch SATA SSDs for new pool creation, and Synology has confirmed they will not roll that back.

The only thing users still need to watch is the incompatibility list. In theory Synology could add a drive there, but historically they only do this for disks with firmware bugs, abnormal behaviour, or reliability risks. They have never used it to block normal NAS drives without a technical reason, and doing so now would cause major pushback, so it is highly unlikely.
