NAS setup for video editing and footage backup

#1
Hi,
I'm looking to get a NAS or equivalent type of solution for my organisation. We are 3 video editors working in one space and we need alot of space that is fast enough to edit off of as well as redundancy to make sure we don't lose any material. We also have some colleagues in other countries who we would like to give some access to be able to access footage on the drive or maybe even copy footage onto it if possible.
I would like to get your expert advice and if possible even have a meeting discussion to discuss possibilities. Would be open to do it as a consultancy that we would pay for. Reach me on my email to discuss further.

Regards,

Thanks for getting in touch. Based on what you described — three editors working locally with large video projects, plus the need for redundancy and remote access — I’d strongly recommend looking at the QNAP TVS-h1288X or TVS-h874X.

Both are powerful enough to handle 4K and even 6K multi-user editing directly over a 10GbE network. The h1288X gives you more bays for long-term scalability (ideal for 100–150TB with RAID 6 or RAID-Z2), while the h874X offers newer Intel hardware and PCIe Gen 4 speeds for SSD tiering and expansion options.

These systems run QuTS hero (ZFS), which provides data integrity, snapshot protection, and hybrid SSD caching — perfect for balancing performance and redundancy in video workflows. You can also add a 10GbE switch and map shared editing folders for all three users, keeping collaboration smooth and centralized.

For remote access and global collaboration, QNAP’s Hybrid Backup Sync and myQNAPcloud Link make it simple to share or sync data securely. For more advanced setups, you could integrate Tailscale VPN for encrypted global access.
