I was wondering what you think of the UGREEN DXP4800 Plus? I am not really tech-savvy anymore, and is UGREEN relatively safe? I do a fair amount of photography.

Thanks for the message, and glad you enjoy the videos. The UGREEN DXP4800 Plus is actually one of the better mid-range NAS units released recently. It’s quiet, well-built, and performs close to systems from bigger brands like Synology or QNAP. The hardware is strong — it uses Intel’s N100 processor, supports 4 bays with RAID options, and includes NVMe slots for SSD caching or fast app storage.
As for safety, UGREEN’s NAS operating system (UGOS Pro) has improved a lot over the past year. It now supports 2-factor authentication, user access controls, Docker, virtual machines, and secure remote access through a built-in firewall. However, it’s still relatively new compared with Synology DSM or QNAP QTS, which have had many more years of security testing. If you’re mainly storing photos and personal projects, it’s safe enough as long as you take standard precautions: • Keep automatic firmware updates enabled • Use 2-factor login and strong passwords • Back up important photos to a second location (cloud or USB drive) If you prefer something a bit more established, QNAP and Synology are still the gold standard for long-term reliability and support. But for its price and hardware, the DXP4800 Plus is a great value option — especially for photographers who need a quiet, capable, and easy-to-manage NAS. |
