Rebuilding storage pool - Super slow to log-in?

HI all - I started upgrading my DS218+ with two new 4TB drives on Friday. I replaced the first one, which repaired overnight... All fine. I replaced the second drive at lunchtime yesterday - It was still repairing last night.
This morning, logging into DSM is taking almost 10 minutes... and everything is crawling.
Do I just leave it alone for now? Can I force restart when the storage pool is being repaired?

Could you please advise on how to move from my existing DS218+ (2 x 4TB) to a brand new DS920+?
The 218+ is running DSM 7, which I assume the 920+ won't be. Is it possible to upgrade the DS920+ to DSM 7 and then swap the drives from the DS218+ into slots 1&2?
I assume that the DS920+ needs at least one blank drive in bay 1 to allow the DSM 7 update. Once I do that, can I eject it and use it elsewhere instead? I have ordered 2 x 2TB drives for the DS218+, as we plan to keep it as a remote backup for the new DS920+.

POE Switch for IP Camera with Synology?

I want to add IP cameras to my older Synology DS1511+. I am confused about where the POE switch should go in the wired setup.
My system background:
Modem to Router
Router to unmanaged switch to other devices like Apple TV, etc...
Router to Synology
Where in the lineup is the best location for POE switch?
Directly to Router?
Directly to Unmanaged Switch?
Directly to the second port on the back of Synology NAS?

MKV and QNAP?

Transcoding MKV files using QNAP TVS-1282-i7-32G. Most of my library are MKV files. I understand that QNAP has an issue with MKV and requires work around to support them.
Is this still true?
My main reason to move from my Existing 21 TB Windows Home Server 2011 Supermicro Server with 8 3TB Enterprise drives connected to a Maga Raid Storage card is the amount of power required to run the Server 24 X 7. I am hoping a QNAP with 8 SSD drives would cost about 1/2 to run and add performance and reliability. Although the Supermicro Server has been very reliable for the last 5 years.
I am thinking about getting the QNAP TVS-1281-i7-32G 450W
Any advice you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ease of upgrading 1 of 2 JBOD drives in DS214play ?

Thanks in advance for your help. I'm running a DS214play for file and media storage/playback with 2 3Tb WD RED drives which are configured as 1 Storage Pool with Synology's JBOD but are now nearly full. I'm happy with the performance (so don't eg need to upgrade the whole NAS) so I'm wondering how easy it is/what steps would be needed to swap out 1 drive for a larger capacity one. For example, if I used external USB HDDs to temporarily take the file capacity down to, say, 2Tb, is there a way of reconfiguring the JBOD to allow 1 of the drives to be removed and a larger capacity one swapped in ? Synology's Help Centre seems very quiet on this subject. Thanks

Plex NAS advice please?

Hi all. I'm new here, so I'm sorry if I do or say anything silly!
I have a small home network with a Synology DS-213j serving home/office needs and Plex. It's very nearly full so I want a second NAS, to use solely for Plex. I will then use the 213j for home/office duties only, with the two current 2TB drives mirrored.
So what can people recommend please? I'm not wedded to Synology, and I find their interface a bit clunky/inflexible to be honest. However this could be different for a modern system.
I'd ideally like a 4-bay NAS, and would start with a single 8TB drive possibly. Reliability and quality for me are most important. I would expect no more than 3 Plex users at a time to be using the NAS, at anything between 720-4k, more or less always on a TV. My maximum budget would be £1000 all-in, though I'd hope to spend less if I can.
Thanks in advance for any pointers...

Synology: 4 bay configuration question?

Considering acquiring a Synology 4 bay NAS with 16TB drives .... I would like to mirror bays 1 and 2 for ongoing backups of a few PCs and have bays 3 and 4 independent, stand-alone and accessible drives and would like to rotate off site bay 4 (can I replace bay 4 monthly as an independent stand-alone drive?)
Is that easily done? Which Synology 4 bay would you recommend?
