Thanks for the video. I am buying the ds220+ (I know 2 bay, you are warning me against) I have been using multiple USB drives for years and am tired of multiple disks. Anyway, getting two 18tb exos drives (Seagate Exos X18 18TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 3.5-Inch Enterprise Hard Drive 2-Pack - ST18000NM000J (Renewed)) to run a raid system. I don't know anything about RAID (please help) Going for the 8gb ram (ADATA Premier 8GB Single DDR4 2666Mhz CL19 PC4-21000 260-Pin SODIMM Memory RAM Single (AD4S26668G19-SGN)) add on. I thought I saw somewhere I could also add a PCIe SSD to the board. Can I? I am planning on moving my Plex server (w/lifetime membership) to this NAS. I also am planning on using it for windows backup, a cloud storage, and other things after watching this video. Where am I going wrong or should be doing?

Requirements:
1. There are about 6 different departments that would need individual space on it
2. Secure Access to data & transfer & sharing both in the building and remotely by each individual team
3. Media storage - Video, audio & pictures
4. Storage of simple day-to-day files
5. I will need redundancy
6. I'm I able to mix hard drive capacity or do they have to be all the same?
6. Never used or set up a NAS before, therefore I will need an easy-to-use interface/software

I need advice on ram upgrade of my synology 920+
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-15-2022, 12:00 PM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

I have a Synology 920+, I have seen your videos but none definitively say which ram I should get specifically for 920+, I want to get 4GB+4GB, 8GB+4GB if possible. Please advise on ram models.

I have access to these models:

1. Crucial CT8G4SFS8266 8GB DDR4-2666 SODIMM Memory | Form Factor SODIMM
2. Crucial 4GB DDR4-2666 SODIMM Memory | Form Factor UDIMM
3. Crucial CT4G4SFS6266 4GB DDR4-2666 SODIMM Memory | Form Factor: Unknown

and some Kingston and transcend, we cannot import everything over here.

Please advise any other if you can, Thank you very much.

  NAS QNAP or Synology
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-15-2022, 10:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

Hi Guys,

Which NAS to buy? QNAP or Synology? I am a photographer and do some videos on the side.

Looking for alternative solutions to:
Synology DS920+
vs
Synology DS1522+

Budget 500 – 1000 EUR
4 or 5 or 6 Bays System
How many years of warranty do you offer?

If it is a 5 Bay System, can I put 2 x 4TB in RAID 1 + 3 x 8TB in RAID 5

Also, which drives you'd recommend?
Seagate IronWolf 8TB
vs
Western Digital Red Plus 8TB
vs
Western Digital Red PRO 8TB

Thanks,
Plamen

  Media storage

I work with a lot of photo and video files, therefore I need a way to store everything. I have two 5TB Toshiba X300 drives, bought around 5 years ago, which have been rarely used in an external enclosure.

Recently I built a new desktop PC and decided to put the two drives inside for convenience. Apart from the two Toshiba drives, I have a 500GB Nvme system drive and a 1TB SATA SSD for current projects and games. This setup satisfies me for now because I have everything easily accessible, however, as I suspect you know the X300 are quite noisy drives.

To minimize the time I have to keep up with the noise I have set up the PC to turn off the drives after 15 minutes, however, this works sporadically - sometimes they will spin up every 15 min for 15 min, then go to sleep for 15 min, and so on, which drives me crazy. When the drives are spinning they are indeed too noisy and distracting, especially within a modern silent PC tower. I have been thinking to replace the two Toshiba drives with a single drive of size 12 or 16TB.

And here is my question - from your experience, which is the quietest 3.5 HDD? It can be for desktop use or for NAS - I don't mind. It won't be on 24/7, but sometimes I can leave the PC on for quite some time. I have been considering the option of an external NAS device, but to be honest, for now, it is too much hassle, and can't justify the cost. Speed of the drive is not a priority as all the projects I', working on are always moved to the SSD.

Best Nas For Plex at present time
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-15-2022, 08:30 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

Good morning
Just going through your channel vids and I have already a qnap nas which is old now with about 18tb wd red drives in. It was struggling hosting my plex as I have a mixtures of 4k 1080 files plus I let other family members share my plex.
Last year I bought a ryzen 5950 pc which I transferred the server over to and used the nas just purely as storage. Then I moved the pc and nas to our holiday home in the lakes so watch everything remotely. I now want the pc back and want to replace it with the best Nas at the moment for plex - it states in your video - best nas for 2022 - it might have changed for the summer.
What is the best Nas at the moment for plex - best transcoding and for about 5 or 6 users. Is it still the power house nas you have in the best nas for plex 2022 video.

If you could help with your recommendation

  Laptop backup to NAS
Posted by: Enquiries - 07-15-2022, 01:00 AM - Forum: Before you buy Q&A - No Replies

Hello,

I've just subscribed to your Youtube channel but for about a year I've watched some of your Youtube videos and found them very useful in helping me to decide which brand to choose for my NAS and hard drives. I've recently bought a Synology DS720+ with a memory upgrade to 6Gb and populated the drive bays with 2 x Western Digital 8Tb Plus drives. I've found that your Youtube channel explains everything so clearly and you guys are doing an excellent job. However, I have a question for you. My main computer (a laptop) is fully backed up each night using Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office to a Backup Volume on the NAS. However, I've noticed that when I check the Backup Volume next morning it shows two Acronis backup files although I've scheduled Acronis to backup once a day at 7:30pm. The two backup files show the same date and time and almost the same data size - example: 14 July at 7:48pm - 50,698,900kb and 50,328,176kb. My question is "Does DSM 7.1 create a second copy of the Acronis backup for the mirrored (2nd) 8Tb Drive?"

Kind regards,
Phil

I have 6 in camera’s (2 x 3MP and 4 x 1MP) So I want to install surveillance station and buy 4 licenses. Also I would like to stream movies en MP3 (flac). I have a big collection of photos, I would like to store and some files. Mostly manuals and personal files.

Could you please advise me the right synology? I was thinking of a DS418, but after seeing your video you made me confused. Thanks in advance!
