I've found the information you provide on your site and on videos posted on Youtube very helpful. Thanks for your work.
I'm new to music streaming. I have a SONOS PORT device that I'm using to stream from Spotify. Next step is to rip the ample (600-700) family CD collection and move the data to a NAS for streaming purposes. Based on the information I've seen you present and what I've seen on the Synology site, I've been focusing on the Synology DS220+. 3.5 years ago in a video you posted on the subject of choosing a NAS for purposes of streaming with SONOS devices, you suggested the DS216+ as a viable option. In the intervening years, is there any new information to indicate that the DS220+ isn't a reasonably equivalent choice? Is there something else you might suggest I consider? I also plan to use this device for basic backup of family computers (including a fair number of photos that I'd like to organize), of which there are four.
Besides the additional capacity, does the DS720+ give me anything, feature-wise that might be useful enough for me to consider?
I reside in the U.S.
Thanks in advance.
I am about to by my first NAS. But I can not find good information about some details that are on high priority to me.
I want:
* Instant upload of iPhone photos and the possability to have them deleted automaticly from iphone after uploaded.
* iPhone Live Photos support (on auto uploaded photos and browsing photos)
* to be able to use my iPhone to browse my photo collection stored in my NAS. I plan to have nothing locally stored in my phone so there will be plenty of space for a big cache files for thumbnails.
I am comfortable with configuring systems but can not really say what NAS brand that I want. But if one of them are better on my wishes above - that will be what I go for.
I currently use 8 x WD30EFRX (WD Red 3TB CMR) from circa 2012. They are whisper quiet in my DS1812+ and - even during data scrubbing and high load - the noise isn't intrusive at all in my office.
I'm looking to get a new 8bay Synology NAS (either DS1819+ or DS1821+) and would like it to be similarly quiet if possible... so I'm wondering if the newer, giant-capacity drives are still as quiet?
I've heard the Seagate IronWolfs are both noisier and harsher in sound/tone, especially under load, so I'm avoiding those (but happy to be corrected if I've got heard wrong about them, of course).
Picture browsing is my priority, my wife would like just to grab an android phone and just browse pictures, videos, etc. Key factor is also price, a 2 bay device should be fine. The device needs to be able to be configured without an online server to be present ( got a Netgear stora, that cannot be configured, as it is trying to access a netgear server which is off ). So far, I found qnap TS230 as a viable option, please chip in with experience, bad or good about it or any similar device.
Thanks in advance,
Vlad
I have tried to create hard links to the /photo default shared folder in DSM. The links appear in /photo but I cant see the photos from the linked folders in Photostation. I did just the other day discover the enable Allow symbolic links within shared folders seitch in file services and have turned that on. I have been using the command similar to mount --bind /volume1/SharedFolder/Set1/ /volume1/photo/Test123. I have then reindexed the photostation app but cant see photos. Any ideas please. Been trying for months as I also use lightroom and need to sync external drives containing specialist drone footage rather than having to duplicate copies to /photo
Bought a second hand TS-109 Pro, downloaded QFinder Pro and the latest firmware 3.3.3. All installed correctly but cannot see it on the network or map a drive in windows 10
When I click Details in QFinder Pro, it comes up with a log in screen where I put default username and password, the it does a little search for a few seconds and closes down???
When I click on Network Drives, there is nothing to select in the Select IP Address dropdown box???
I know it's an old system but I wanted to try it out to share music and videos on my network.
Thanks in advance
This video (https://youtu.be/Lk0N0M5MLLc?t=340) shows that Synology Moments is supposed to play videos right in the app. But on both my Pixel 3 and my wife's S10e, when tapping on a video to play, we get prompted with a "select which app to play this video in".
We're both connected to the same server, so I'm wondering if there's a server-side setting that I need to change. I can't imagine that Synology would remove that functionality if at one point it did play videos, as shown in the video linked above.
Thanks for the help.
My business partner and I are building a music studio and would like to have a server in order to efficiently work on multiple computers (we will have two different rooms, each with its own PC, but projects will need to be accessed in each room). While we will mainly be sharing project folders, we would also like to stream up to 4k video as well as share audio samples, photos, and other miscellaneous files. We’re curious which NAS would best fit our needs! Any help is greatly appreciated!
Is there a workable solution in the UK? I have a Synology DS216+II (hardware transcoder) running Plex. I would like to connect a TV tuner so as I can watch / record live TV (using Plex). I have tried (and returned) a Silicondust HDHomeRun CONNECT DUO (https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07BFNRGN9). This would not work without major buffering issues. My thinking is that I need hardware transcoding built into the tuner, but this does not seem to be available in the UK. Does anybody have any ideas?
