Exos X20 and DS1621xs+

#1
Hi
On the compatibilty list of the DS1621xs+, I can only find the EXOS X16 16TB.
Do you think the Exos X20 18TB would work just fine and would you recommend buying this type of drive (very good $/TB ratio at the moment)?
I could live with a warning (you mentioned this could happen).
Thanks!

You will not notice any difference either you get one drive or another. The only difference you notice is when you use SSD in HDD bays.
Regarding compatibility, people are using drives that are not listed on compatibility lists.
With XS series NAS they try to sell their own Synology drives. Very likely you will get a message that drive is not on the compatibility with this NAS.
I would personally stick with their recommendation with any XS series NAS model.
Here is their list for 16/18TB

Enterprise 3.5" SATA HDD Synology HAT5310 HAT5310-18T 1401 18TB
Enterprise 3.5" SATA HDD Synology HAT5300 HAT5300-16T 1401 16TB
Enterprise 3.5" SATA HDD Synology HAT5300 HAT5300-16T 1402 16TB
Enterprise 3.5" SATA HDD Seagate Exos X16 ST16000NM001G - 2KK103 SN02 16TB
Enterprise 3.5" SATA HDD Toshiba MG08ACA*** MG08ACA16TE 0101 16TB
Enterprise NAS 3.5" SATA HDD Seagate IronWolf Pro ST16000NE000 - 2RW103 EN02 16TB

You can achieve 10GbE speeds with any of these drives.
