Link Aggregation switch

#1
Hi
I have just purchased an AS5302t and I am looking to purchase a Link Aggregation switch ( Asustor 2.5Gb 5 port or equivalent) Am I able to use this or do I have to purchase a managed switch. Asustor documentation under setting up makes no mention of this other than Adaptive load balancing requires no special switch report. Googling the subject and most say you can't but there are some that say you can. Please help

Thank you for your support, this keeps us going.

Yes, load balancing do not require a smart switch. But this is only useful in business environment. This creates two pipes of 1Gbit speeds. If someone is downloading files at 1GbE speed, you can achieve the same results at the same time. But both of you will be limited to 1GbE speed. In home environment this is not useful.

If you need 2Gbit speed, you will need proper link aggregation and not balancing. This will require a smart switch.

Even if you get 10GbE switch, it will be backwards compatible with other standards. It might be cheaper to get a faster switch.

Maybe these posts help

I hope this helps.

Thanks again.
