SSD cashing for large quantity of small files database type.

#1
Hi.

I just read your article about SSD cashing.
We are now waiting for DS923+ release and we consider adding ssd cashing for our company.

We have several employees that are often searching for certain file in our database.
Database we need to access fast, is a database that contains tens of thousands small files such as small - few hundreds of kilobytes size - 3D models, pdf files, drawings (CAD environment), small excel files and such.

So I wonder if adding M2 NVMe cashing will make all those little files fly to the cash of NAS and alow us to search for them much quicker. We use 1GBe network, but as mentioned before the files are rather small, and we waste most of the time searching for them, not openning or saving them.

My question is: will SSD cashing in this case help?
We currently use SSD sata Synology NAS with no cashing.

Best regards

Yes, it will help a lot. Here is some performance info to put SSD vs HDD in perspective:

Firecuda 530 IOPS. = Random Read / write 1,000,000 IOPS
Data transfer speeds MB/s read/ write 7300MB/s / 6900MB/s

HDD performance
WD Red Pro 6TB. = 1,541 IOPS write and 2,602 IOPS read
READ / write speed = 214 MB/s

I hope this helps.
