DX517

#1
Good Evening and may the Queen rest in Haven,

I have a DS920+ and am filling it. I started with 4 6TB drives. I have swapped 2 of them with 14TB drives running SHR. I'm fixing to buy 2 either 16TB of 18 TB drives. I was thinking about buying the DX517 and putting the old 6TB drives in it.

I read somewhere that you should NOT run the same volume over the sata cable to the DX517. Is this true?

This expansion unit is made to allow you to expand an existing volume. Some people worry that you could accidentally disconnect or break the cable which could cause a RAID failure. Slim chance, but possible. In meantime, you could get another NAS and link them both together as mapped network drives if this is a worry. The expansion unit will also allow you to create a standalone RAID.

I hope this helps.
