RS1221+ VS RS822+

#1
Hello.
Firstly, thank you for your videos, since we started looking into NAS for work been a really useful place to get info.
I am in need of a rack mount NAS. I have found the RS822+ and RS1221+.
Price wise, currently, Box.co.uk has a difference of around £50.
Now I know the 822 is newer, but the 1221 has more bays.
However, I would probably upgrade the ram in the 822 straight away so then the 822 is priced higher (just)
Same processors etc.
I don't need 10G or expansion etc
Storage isn't massive, a few TBs
I would be getting a separate NAS for backup sometime, I don't really want the backup in the same unit as the active files.
The other option is the RS422+ but it would be leaving me with no upgrade in the memory.
That said, our use case is minor, 10 users (not at same time), not really hitting it hard, and the files are only text/photos so not major data transfer.
Would the 422 be ok? Big saving! No media/vm usage etc. I would be cloud backup though and VPN.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, in this case there is 2GB fixed RAM and dual-core CPU vs more RAM and quad-core CPU.
Simple file storage will never require more than 2GB of memory.
If you need extras like snapshots, caching etc., you may consider something with upgradable RAM.

I hope this helps.
