Synology and Toshiba MG 18tb

#1
Hello

I am interested in procuring a Synology NAS for my home business use, primarily for backup and media server, it would most likely be serving 6 to 10 users and need to run a few VM.

Given the HDD support controversy I am a bit concern with which model of Synology I should go for in order to max storage without resorting to their own brand of HDD.

Specifically I am looking at a DS1821+, seeking to max its storage capacity but is unsure of the following:
1) Are Toshiba MG series supported and usable with this model?
2) I read that the max supported storage size is 108 TB, would this meant that getting 18tb would be overkill instead of 14 tb?

I have been following your YouTube channel and it has been highly informative. Would greatly appreciate if you can point me to a recommended pathway for my needs.

Thanks!

Yes, Synology in fact are using Toshiba drives and relabeling them as theirs. Here is a full list of tested drives https://www.synology.com/en-global/compa...ge_log_p=1
People often come back to us saying they use drives that are not on the tested list perfectly fine. If not, you can alter their compatibility file located on the NAS.
The maximum Volume is indeed 108TB. But this do not mean you can not use the entire disk space. You simply create a second volume for the remaining storage space https://kb.synology.com/en-uk/DSM/tutori...20108%20TB.

I hope this helps.
