Migration and suggestions on what I can do with my old NAS?

#1
Hello,

Thank you for your time. I have a DS716+II and I am upgrading to a DS1019+. I have two 4tb hard drives from my previous NAS and I will be adding new drives over time. Do the new drives have to be the same brand and model as my current hard drives?

Also, do you have any suggestions on what I can do with my DS716+II after I migrate to the DS1019+?

Thank you again for your time and consideration in this regard and have a great day.

Sincerely,
Eric

Yes, you should be able to migrate your old disks to a new DS1019+. If you have SHR RAID then you can mix different size and brand drives. But recommended having similar RPM drives though.Old NAS could be resold for a decent price or used for backup. You can set up an automated replication service which will protect your data against disasters like floor/fire/burglars.I hope this helps.
