4tb WD Red no longer compatible with synology?

#1
Hi. Thanks for your site and videos. I have recently moved my 4tb wd red HDD from ds412+ to rs1219+. A check today on the synology site shows 4tb red HDD are no longer listed as compatible. They were on the compatible list yesterday I’m sure! My question is which models/serial numbers were compatible? Has WD published when they changed from CMR to SMR on hdd so we can check what we have?

Even though Synology do not list SMR drives as compatible they will still work with Synology. WD did a terrible thing by changing the existing CMR drives to SMR drives. Because mixing two technologies are not a recommended thing to do. The performance would suffer. But if you have all drives of the same kind then you should not worry much.It is more of a problem for those who need to replace an existing drive in a RAID. I hope this helps.https://nascompares.com/answer/how-to-tell-a-difference-between-dm-smr-and-non-smr-cmr-drives-hdd-compare/
