Migrating Synology NAS DS1819+ to DS1823XS+ - Enquiries - 07-11-2023

I have an existing DS1819+ using 6 x HAT5300 8TB and and 2 x Seagate IRONWOLF 8TB all in one volume running SHR-2.

My questions is can this be migrated directly to a DS1823xs+ knowing 2 of my disks are potentially not supported and also knowing SHR is not supported on the XS series.

The changing of disks I can deal with by upgrading them before migrating but what about RAID type, from what I am reading I can't migrate from SHR-2 to RAID6.

Yes, it is possible to migrate your existing setup from the DS1819+ to the DS1823xs+. Although the two disks that are potentially not supported should be upgraded before migrating, the migration process itself should still work. While SHR is not supported on the XS series, we have successfully migrated drives in SHR to XS series NAS devices that are not normally allowed. Therefore, there is a good chance that your migration from SHR-2 to RAID 6 will still be successful.
