Asustor sync - Enquiries - 06-22-2023 Thank you for your very helpful series of videos on setting up an Asustor NAS. I'm having a small problem syncing files with EZ Sync. I have set up EZ Sync so that it syncs all my work doc files from specific folders on my PC to my NAS. I set it up as a one-way PC to NAS sync, following your YouTube instructions. It has worked, in that any new files added to these folders on the PC reflect on the NAS when both are on the same network (exactly what I want). But I notice that when I change a file on the PC and save the file, these changes are not reflected in the file synced on the NAS. (ie. The file that was first copied to the NAS is not altered when the original is altered and saved on the PC). My questions: 1. Is there a way to ensure that the changes to a document or other file are updated on the NAS whenever they are saved on the PC? 2. Is there a way to do the above while also ensuring that when a file is deleted in the PC it is NOT automatically deleted on the NAS? RE: Asustor sync - ed - 06-27-2023 To ensure that changes to a document or file on your PC are updated on the NAS whenever they are saved, you need to configure EZ Sync to use a two-way sync instead of the one-way PC to NAS sync you currently have set up. By enabling two-way sync, any changes made to files on either the PC or the NAS will be synchronized between the two devices. This way, when you modify and save a file on your PC, the changes will be reflected in the synced file on the NAS as well. By default, EZ Sync performs a mirror sync, which means that if a file is deleted on the PC, it will also be deleted on the NAS during synchronization. However, if you want to prevent automatic deletion of files on the NAS when they are deleted on the PC, you can enable the "Enable backup mode" option in EZ Sync. Backup mode retains files on the destination (NAS) even if they are deleted on the source (PC). This way, when a file is deleted on the PC, it will still be preserved on the NAS, ensuring that no automatic deletions occur during synchronization. RE: Asustor sync - Baz - 01-10-2024 @ed I have set up a two-way sync with EZ Sync. I want to ensure that EZ Sync does not automatically delete files on the NAS when they are deleted on the PC, and so I wish to enable the "Enable Backup Mode" option in EZ Sync as you have advised. Could you please tell me where I find that "Enable Backup Mode" option in EZ Sync? I have searched, but cannot locate this option. Thank you. |
