What to buy - Enquiries - 05-10-2023

Hi

Really enjoy watching your reviews on the Ds Synology I originally had a 3tb wd cloud my cloud home one , which I used as to stream on my 3 smart tvs and on the phones the single bay one which the fan got noisy as it was over 9 years old now so I have removed the 3td Red Nas out of it and I was wandering whether I should get another WD cloud my home one or should I get a synology as I am attracted by the plex server rather than the boring dlna file server on tv as I think the WD cloud I had was the old model , would the DS120J be able to handle what I have been doing previously with the WD or do I need a synology 2 bay one please ? My concern is what you mentioned about the ds120j being 800 mhz and only having 512mb ram not sure what my WD cloud had ? so I need your advice my budget is £200 and really 3tb is all I need ?

Thanks

Ricky

Based on your requirements, the Synology DS120j should be able to handle your streaming needs, but it may not be as smooth as compared to more powerful models. The DS120j has an 800 MHz processor and 512 MB of RAM, which may not be enough to handle multiple simultaneous streams or high-bitrate media. However, if you're mainly streaming to a few devices at a time, you should be okay.

If you're looking for more power and flexibility, a 2-bay Synology model would be a better choice. The DS220+ is a popular option that's within your budget and comes with a dual-core 2.0 GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM. This model should be able to handle multiple streams and more demanding media files.
DS118 would have more RAM compared to 120j.
