Qnap TS-462 upgrade - Enquiries - 04-15-2023 Good morning ... EXCELLENT Youtube videos!!! A couple of questions (if I may). I currently have a Qnap TS-269L with 2 3TB drives that I use for photo backup (amatuer photographer) and as a "server" for documents, little music, and littler video. Without doing enough research, I purchased 2 8TB Seagate Ironwolf dives to replace the 3TB's. They're not on the Qnap approved list and my 269 is quite old. I've convinced myself to purchase the TS-462. From Qnap tech I should be able to take the 2 existing 3TB drives from the 269 and install them in the 462, then replace the drives 1 by 1 to the 8TB. However, on Qnap's website, there is a caveat that says if the raid was created before a certain firmware, it won't work. Any advice? Does this sound like a logical upgrade? Hoping to take advantage of my "free" 2.5gbe connection on my ISP modem and motherboard Thanks in Advance Cheers PS VERY happy with my current setup, hasn't given me a moments issue! RE: Qnap TS-462 upgrade - ed - 04-21-2023 Yes, you can move your existing drives over to the new TS-462 and replace them with the 8TB drives one at a time. Just make sure to choose the migrate option during setup and select the clean start option to wipe the data on the existing drives. However, it would be quicker to simply put the new drives in a new NAS and set it up independently. As long as the drives are SATA drives, they will be compatible with the new NAS. You can export the NAS settings into a file and import them into the new NAS. Once both NAS are connected to the LAN, data can also be copied over to the new NAS. Alternatively, if you have a USB docking station, you can connect one of the old drives to the new NAS and copy data directly. |
