Nas advice for family - Enquiries - 03-27-2023 Have an old 2TB WD Mycloud (no longer supported, older OS) and need to set up a proper NAS for the home. Heavy multimedia users (lots of photos, music and video usage - including 4k H.265) and looking for a solution to store on NAS (limited space on smaller laptop SSDs) as well as backup solutions. Prefer network storage to local device storage, but also interested in backup of data - especially for photos and videos. Will have up to 4 users as kids grow in use of mobile devices and/or future laptops for school use. Ability to back up/store/archive photos from mobile devices (all iOS users), videos and be able to play back videos from NAS to devices(smart TVs, laptops, mobile devices/tablets) in home would be ideal. Sharing with family members outside of home a bonus. Could use old WD MYcloud for backup purposes and/or cloud storage (Google drive) for photos as a backup option. RE: Nas advice for family - ed - 03-30-2023 Based on your needs, it sounds like the Synology DS220+ would be a great option for your home NAS setup. This NAS has plenty of storage space for your multimedia files, including photos, music, and videos, and it supports 4K H.265 video, which is great for high-quality video playback. One of the benefits of using a network storage solution like the DS220+ is that it allows you to easily backup and store all of your important data in one central location. This is especially important for photos and videos, which can take up a lot of space on your mobile devices and laptops. The DS220+ also supports backup solutions, so you can rest easy knowing that your data is safe and secure. The DS220+ is also great for multiple users, as it can support up to 4 users at a time. This is perfect for families with kids who are using mobile devices or laptops for school work, as everyone can access the files they need from the central NAS location. One of the other benefits of using a NAS like the DS220+ is that you can easily share files with family members outside of your home. This is great for sharing photos or videos with grandparents or other family members who don't live nearby. |
