NAS for docker Homebridge - Enquiries - 02-20-2023

Hello I hope this finds you and your team well.

A colleague just started at Synology and has 40% off for their equipment and shared with me I should get a dual bay.

Originally I’ve considered a single bay NAS just for docker use so I can run Homebridge for my cameras in my home.

Can I get away with the cheapest DSM7 capable NAS setup or will rocker require more resources?

I think I’d be more comfortable with the DS220 as I would like to consolidate all my photography and family media and really like the second Ethernet port.

Anyway, gonna spend the next few days watching your channel. Thank you for your great work!

Best,
Amir

If you're only planning on using the NAS for running Docker and Homebridge, then a single bay NAS may suffice but only Qnap have docker support on a 1 bay. However, if you're planning on consolidating all your photography and family media, then a dual bay NAS like the DS220+ would definitely be a better option, as it will offer more storage and expandability options.

In terms of resources, it really depends on how many Docker containers you plan on running and how resource-intensive they are. Generally speaking, the DS220+ should be powerful enough to handle most Docker containers, but if you plan on running a lot of containers or ones that are particularly demanding, then you may want to consider a more powerful NAS.

In any case, the DS220+ is a great choice for a home NAS and should offer plenty of flexibility and features for your needs. And with the 40% discount, it's an even better deal!
