Plex Server SSD Caching - Enquiries - 01-16-2023

Hello

I've got a Synology DS918+ setup with 4x16TB Iron Wolf Pro HDDs on a RAID5 setup. I recently bought 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB PCIe M.2 NVMe SSD for caching in order to speed up my Plex Media Server metadata loading times. When I initially installed them, I observed a speed up in loading times, however it is now back to the slow loading times that I was experiencing them before.

Is there anything that I need to do other than installing the drives and setting up the drives as Cache devices? How can I speed up the loading times?

Tom

The cache will only boost repetitious data transfers. You would have a better Plex performance if you had one or two SATA SSD in HDD bays. This is where you would install DSM and apps including Plex.
Qnap NAS allow installing OS and app on NVMe volumes.

I hope this helps.
